MTSS

Middle School Parents:

We are excited to be implementing the Multi-Tiered System of Support (or MTSS) in the middle school classrooms. Many of you are familiar with MTSS as we have been doing in kindergarten through 4th grade for the last several years. It is a multi-step process of providing instruction and support to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners. We will be focusing on the academic area of reading for this school year.

The key components of MTSS are:

  • Universal screenings have been done on all students. This data along with teacher recommendation was used to place the students in skill leveled groups.
  • Interventions used to support the students are research based proven strategies. These interventions can be used in the classroom or in small groups.
  • Progress monitoring will be done to each student to see how well the intervention is working.

Your student will be participating in MTSS four days a week for 30 minutes. They maybe be working with their homeroom teacher, the other grade level teacher, or a resource teacher. The groups will be flexible with students moving groups throughout the year.

Please contact your homeroom teacher if you have any questions.
