Thanks to Mrs. Rosie Muehlbach for coming to share her expertise on To Kill a Mockingbird. The 8th graders were shocked when she said she'd read the book 30-40 times!

As Spring Break is around the corner, it's a great time to find new reading material. I will be placing an order this Friday. Sorry for the short notice, but I forgot that I have "buy one book, get one book free" coupons for February. Please let me know if you would like one, and I can send it home with your student. Students will be finishing up with their class novels in the next couple weeks and will be doing lots more choice reading for fourth quarter. Please check out the catalog or the reading brochures your students brought home to find books that interest them! Thanks for your generosity in the past. 8th graders are doing a great job as they read the trial scenes in To Kill a Mockingbird.  They spent this week acting as reporters for the town of Maycomb. We had a fun time! They are reading Ch. 19 for the weekend. We have a speaker scheduled next week, which will be fun.  Have a great long weekend!

March Madness: Books Edition

Students, I encourage you to take the chance to fill out this survey! A group is putting together a March Madness of books. Books that students have liked fall on both the Middle Grades and Young Adult categories, so we will follow both of these brackets as a class. The form will close next Tuesday! Debate

The seventh graders enjoyed providing feedback for the sixth graders today! The had the chance to judge debates between two teams of sixth graders. It was a great opportunity for both grades. Thank you for putting it together, Mrs. Kelly!

Plot Mapping

8th graders have been mapping the plot in To Kill a Mockingbird. So far, they're right on track!

Outsiders

Image
The 7th graders seem to be really enjoying The Outsiders. They've been full of great questions and thoughts! We're working on reading Ch. 5 due Tuesday. They did a fabulous job creating a cell phone for a character. There were some awesome connections! The eighth graders are also doing a really nice job with To Kill a Mockingbird. I was really impressed with some text-based questions that they asked today. We're over halfway (!!), and are reading Ch. 16 for Monday. We're gearing up for Tom Robinson's trial.  Have a great weekend! Happy Valentine's day. The parties today were full of candy and fun. Thanks to all the parents who helped with them.
