Class Update

Image
7th graders have been finishing up their Scope magazine plays. They wrote tweet conversations to summarize either Hercules' 12 Trials (7R) and Life in Sleepy Hallow (7W). They were so creative! Next week, we'll finish SCOPE and start WWII.  8th graders are working on compound sentences. They made the FANBOYS, which are the conjunctions. They will have a test in a week. We'll be starting SCOPE next week.

Downloading videos

8th grade families,  I showed this to students today, but if you want to save their video for future viewing, click on the download button when the student is logged into his or her account. Then select the MP4 option. This will be fun for the student to look back on someday!  Thanks, Miss R.

The 8th graders did a great job last week with Blackout Poetry as part of our narrative unit! They were working so hard to find the words they wanted in the newspaper.

House competition

We had a great time today with 6 brooms and 130+ eggs! Not that many were even broken. The students swept their eggs across the parking lot very carefully. We ended up with a four-way tie!

Brown Bottle Baskets

The Brown Bottle Gift Basket Committee is in need of your support. We have received many items, but we are still in need of much more.  A couple things to know:  ·          Donations are due by the 27th. ·          Donations may be brought up on the 26 th during parent/teacher conferences and can either be left at the front office or with the classroom teacher. Items should be marked with the grade it is for. ·          Donations may still be dropped off on the 27 th , but dropped off at the church office as the school office will be closed . ·          Items brought in after the 27 th will not be included as the baskets will already be wrapped and ready and we are unable to open them back up. ·          A link has also been set up for families to donate money to rather than send in:  https://shoj.wufoo.com/forms/z1rcf3ak0c5ht75/ Your help is GREATLY appreciated!  Baskets will be put together the weekend of October 28 th and 29 th and ready for display the week of O

Brown Bottle Magazine

Image
We're working on our 6th-annual 8th grade class magazine.   All students are contributing to the magazine, which is bound like a magazine and looks like a professional publication. In the magazine, students share their "Where I'm From" poems, giving readers a glimpse of the people, places, events, and objects that have shaped the students' lives. This is a great collection from the class of 2017 and shows the voice and personality of each student who participated!  The proceeds from the magazine benefit Sacred Heart. The magazines costs $22 per magazine. They will be available at Brown Bottle to order, or you can send me an email if you won't be at Brown Bottle this year. After the auction, I will order the magazines. If you would like to sign up for a magazine, you can contact me (sarah.rajewski@shoj.org). Parents can purchase this item for themselves, grandparents, the student, and anyone else you think might enjoy it.  After ordering, the final mag

Snapshots Unit

In the upcoming weeks, students are looking at one of the purposes of writing: to express ourselves and reflect on life. One of the most powerful tools for expression of memories are photographs. In class, we have been creating a narrative/descriptive poem and we will be working on an accompanying video. Students had a heads up that they would need pictures, so hopefully they've told you! If you don't have many pictures/videos available electronically, please don't stress. Students and I will be working next Wednesday on the videos in class. Students can bring any pictures for me to scan in then. The video program we use also has clip art students can add in. All the students will be fine! We always find a way to make it work.  The first week of second quarter, we will be presenting our poems and videos in class. Animoto accounts are private. The only way to access a video is if someone provides the link. My goal with these is to post them in a special section on my b
