ELA plans for November

In ELA this month, we'll be keeping busy. Hard to believe it's already November! Where does the time go?

This week, 7th graders will be starting work on the play of The Diary of Anne Frank, which includes reading outside of class. Ms. Vyhanek and I are aware of the sensitive nature of the Holocaust As parents and guardians, we would appreciate if you could be checking in with your child and letting us know if you have any concerns. 7th graders are also finishing up a unit on prepositional phrases, and we will be starting working with pronouns next week. In their writer's circles, students are working to publish a writing draft. Students should definitely have scheduled a meeting for their book talk(s). As the quarter winds down, those spots will fill. Students should sign up while there are openings!

Eighth graders will be starting A Christmas Carol this week in preparation for attending the play in December. Students will have outside reading. Most of the items for this novel will fall in our reading grade book. In language, we are focused on verbs -- especially our 8th grade standards dealing with active and passive voice and the various moods a verb can have.  For writing, students will publish a piece from their writing circles. We will also be writing pieces connected to our class novel. As with the 7th graders, students should definitely have scheduled a meeting for their book talk(s). As the quarter winds down, those spots will fill. Students should sign up while there are openings!

Please feel free to contact me or Ms. Vyhanek concerning ELA.
