 It was fun to see all the students with their pets today!  Loving the K-State leash ;)  So many animals! 

Hello,  There is a mistake on the calendar regarding the end of 1st quarter.  It does not end Oct. 9th as stated in the calendar.  It ends Oct. 17th!  However, for book talks because the date has been set since August, the last day to book talk will still be next Thursday, Oct. 9. We will use the extra week to get a jump start on reading for the second quarter. Thanks!  Next week, 8th graders will have their Patriotism Essay due Monday. Students will have a Membean quiz at school on Wednesday, and I will be checking their notebooks. Any extra credit for the Membean words can now be turned in Oct. 16th with the change in the end of quarter.  After the review day and the test, we will be working on close reading next week with our SCOPE Scholastic Magazine. Seton and Siena students will receive it on Friday.  Format of the test: -           Fill in the Blank: You have the definitions of the 17 words on pages 24 and 25 in your notebooks (8th) and 15 words on pages 19 and 20 in your notebooks (7th). You will be listing the word to the definition without a word box. -           Multiple Choice (Application): You will choose which type of figurative language is being presented and what effect it has. Ex: “Life is like a box of chocolates.” You would choose simile. Congrats to all students who read either 50 or 100 pages over one night (or weekend) this month! If you see your child on this Wordle, be sure to congratulate them. The students with their names larger completed this feat more often. I saw some GREAT reading this month. Keep it up! Also, a heads up that students have a variety of projects this week because we have students out at Timber Ridge. They will have lots of class time to work on them. Please encourage them to use that class time wisely. :) -- Miss R.

Timber Ridge for the Coming Week Heads Up: Due to an oversight we made, if you have a student who is in Siena House, he or she will be going to Timber Ridge on Thursday, not Friday. The only house going on Friday is John Paul II. Please make sure your student has breakfast, and a lunch on the day of Timber Ridge. Students will not have a snack time; they also will need to have a water bottle so that they keep hydrated. The challenge course runs from 9-3, so plan on a late pickup. Students should be back by 3:30, and no later than 3:45 . If it is raining, event will be canceled and rescheduled for another day. If a House event should get rained out, students will follow their normal schedule. The extra credit wall is growing! Students can find 10 words from their Membean in the world around them. They have the boxes to fill out for extra credit.  In English, as the quarter comes to a close, we've got lots of learning ahead! We're gearing up for our test on Oct. 7th about figurative language. The seventh graders are learning and applying some new words, and the 8th graders also have a few new 8th-grade terms that we added to the list. They know they should be studying the definitions and how to apply them. Students are continuing with their Membean work each week, and next week we will also be reading a short stories and starting our Price Chopper Bag Our Favorite Book competition. Last year, a Sacred Heart 8th-grader won! Students know they will have a notebook check at the end of the quarter, and they must have finished their book talks.  Though the spelling and grammar aren't great, this catchy figurative language song has been our friend this week....
