Snapshots Unit

In the upcoming weeks, students are looking at one of the purposes of writing: to express ourselves and reflect on life. One of the most powerful tools for expression of memories are photographs. In class, we have been creating a narrative/descriptive poem and we will be working on an accompanying video. Students had a heads up that they would need pictures, so hopefully they've told you! If you don't have many pictures/videos available electronically, please don't stress. Students and I will be working next Wednesday on the videos in class. Students can bring any pictures for me to scan in then. The video program we use also has clip art students can add in. All the students will be fine! We always find a way to make it work.  The first week of second quarter, we will be presenting our poems and videos in class. Animoto accounts are private. The only way to access a video is if someone provides the link. My goal with these is to post them in a special section on my b...

Class Magazine

Image
8th grade families,  We're working on our 5th-annual 8th grade class magazine.   All students are contributing to the magazine, which is bound like a magazine and looks like a professional publication. In the magazine, students share their "Where I'm From" poems, giving readers a glimpse of the people, places, events, and objects that have shaped the students' lives. This is a great collection from the class of 2016 and shows the voice and personality of each student who participated!  The proceeds from the magazine benefit Sacred Heart. The magazines costs $22 per magazine. Normally, we make these for Brown Bottle, but Brown Bottle has been moved to November. If you would like to sign up for a magazine, you can contact me (sarah.rajewski@shoj.org). Parents can purchase this item for themselves, grandparents, the student, and anyone else you think might enjoy it.  After ordering, the final magazines will be delivered to the student in class to take ho...

Snapshots Unit: Narrative Reflection

Dear 8th -grade families, In the upcoming weeks, students are looking at one of the purposes of writing: to express ourselves and reflect on life. One of the most powerful tools for expression of memories are photographs. The past couple weeks, we have been creating a narrative/descriptive poem and next week we will be working on an accompanying video. Students had a heads up a couple weeks ago that they would need pictures, so hopefully they've told you! :) If you don't have many pictures/videos available electronically, please don't stress. Students and I will be working Monday on the videos in class. Students can bring any pictures for me to scan in then. The video program we use also has clip art students can add in. All the students will be fine! We always find a way to make it work.  Next week, we will be presenting our videos and our poems in class.   Here is an example of the video I made of my life.   Animoto accounts are p...
