Here are the journal prompts from this week! Some of you requested that I post them for your project.

8: After seeing pictures of concentration camps and learning a little about the Holocaust and Anne Frank, I feel…

 9: Anne’s diary was published in more than 50 countries.  The play, based on her diary, won a Pulitzer Prize and was made into a movie.  Why do you think Anne’s diary and her story have attracted so much attention?

10: The last quote that Mr. Frank reads from the diary is, “In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart.”  What does this tell us about Anne’s character?  What do you think about this quote? How does it relate to you?

Faith Families

We're excited for faith families tomorrow! The 8th graders are doing a wonderful job leading. The 7th graders have also been great role models for the first grade buddies in Mass. They also had the chance to help the first graders to make their prayer books. It surprised them to remember that they once practiced saying the Hail Mary, which now comes so easily. Your student will be bringing home information about a service project that we are participating in as faith families. One faith family plays a game to get to know each other.  Each eighth grader helps lead about ten students.  Check out those neon prayer books!    Almost done!  Seventh graders and first graders hard at work.

Class Update

Last week, 8th graders worked on compound sentences. They made life-sized FANBOYS (conjunctions: For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So), which we're finishing up this week. They will have a test in a couple weeks. We also read "The Tell-Tale Heart," and Mrs. Kelly dressed up as Edgar Allan Poe on the same day! This week, we have started writing our National Novel Writing Month project, where students are trying to write a word-count goal they set for themselves. We're also finishing our read aloud, Fish , and tying in some SCOPE nonfiction text about refugees and child labor laws throughout the world. We will be starting Christmas Carol next week!  7th graders finished up a month of SCOPE magazine today. I loved seeing their play presentations last Friday. Their costumes were creative! We will be starting our WWII unit this week. One class will be reading Daniel's Story , while the other focuses on background information about the time period -- and then we'l...
